Cotton Crop Output in CAI Soars to 311 Lakh Bales
The Cotton Association of India (CAI) has increased India's cotton output projection for the year 2022-23 to 311.18 lakh bales (each weighing 170 kg). This revision came after a meeting of cotton stakeholders convened by the trade body in Mumbai on July 10 to determine a more accurate estimate. In May, CAI had initially projected a lower cotton output of 298.65 lakh bales, the lowest since 2008-09. However, the Committee on Cotton Production and Consumption had estimated a higher output of 343.47 lakh bales for the same year. During the meeting, CAI members, including the crop committee, discussed pressing data provided by state associations and inputs from other stakeholders.

Price Reduction for Wheat and Rice under Domestic Open Market Scheme
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has recently announced a reduction in the prices of rice and wheat sold through the open market sale scheme for registered bulk buyers. According to Manjeev Kumar Goyal, Deputy General Manager of FCI in Chennai, the cost of fortified rice has been lowered from ₹34/kg to ₹31/kg, while the price of wheat has been adjusted from ₹22.50/kg to ₹21.50/kg. This decision aims to implement a market control mechanism that benefits consumers. To ensure the commodities are not resold to traders or middlemen outside the state, only traders with GST numbers in Tamil Nadu are allowed to participate in the bidding process.

Telangana Govt Reviews Seasonal Conditions and Preparedness for Kharif 2023
A review meeting was conducted today to assess the current seasonal conditions and Kharif activities in Telangana. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Yogita Rana, Joint Secretary (INM), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare (MoAFW), Government of India, and M. Raghunandan Rao, Agricultural Production Commissioner (APC) and Secretary of the Agriculture and Cooperation (A&C) Department, Government of Telangana. The gathering also included nodal officers responsible for the implementation of various Centrally Sponsored Schemes and Central Sector Schemes in Agriculture. During the meeting, M. Raghunandan Rao delivered a detailed presentation on the prevailing seasonal conditions in Telangana and the preparedness measures for the Kharif season, including drought mitigation strategies.
