Amid the growing protest and anger over recently approved farm bills 2020, there is a good news for farmers. Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan last week launched 'Mukhyamantri Kisan Kalyan Yojana' on the lines of Modi government’s Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

Chouhan announced that Rs. 4,000 would be transferred to accounts of as many as 1,75,000 farmers in the state annually in two instalments under the scheme. He said the Central government is offering financial assistance of Rs. 6000 every year under PM Kisan Scheme adding that "My government thought to increase Rs. 4,000 so that farmers could get Rs.10, 000 annually”.

The Chief Minister further said that a farmer has full right to sell his crops as per his choice. He said "There is no question of stopping the Minimum Support Price or MSP. If a buyer tells a farmer that he would buy soybean & both sides enter into an agreement then where is the problem?"

Chouhan also performed the Bhoomi Pujan of the Rs. 2,400 crore-Narmada Irrigation Project at a program in Sanwar, Indore district on 26th September 2020. This project is said to benefit 178 villages of Sanwar assembly constituency in Indore district. Additionally, water will also be available for drinking water, irrigation & industrial purpose in these villages.

The Minister stressed that the interests of the farmers will be fully taken care of in Madhya Pradesh. The MP government has deposited the premium under the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme & also deposited crop insurance amount of Rs. 4600 crore in the farmers' accounts.

Chouhan said at present, the farmers whose crops have been destroyed will be repaid. Under PM Kisan yojana started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the amount has been increased to Rs. 10,000 per farmer.
