Andhra Pradesh Government Announces New Farmer Support Scheme

The new government in Andhra Pradesh has announced a new farmer support scheme - christened YSR Rythu Bharosa, which will be implemented from 15th October 2019 in the state. The scheme will offer investment support of Rs 12,500 per annum to each farmer. The previous Telugu Desam Party government’s scheme called Annadaata Sukhibhava (input subsidy) has been scrapped.

The new government in Andhra Pradesh has announced a new farmer support scheme - christened YSR Rythu Bharosa, which will be implemented from 15th October 2019 in the state. The scheme will offer investment support of Rs 12,500 per annum to each farmer. The previous Telugu Desam Party government’s scheme - Annadatha Sukhibhava (input subsidy) has been scrapped. 

The new Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy made the announcement on 6th June 2019 at Amaravati after conducting a review on agriculture.  It is important to mention that Annadatha Sukhibhava scheme that provides financial assistance of Rs 15,000 / annum per farmer was announced by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in its election manifesto. The scheme also includes an element of central support of Rs 6,000, then announced by the Central Government. 

 In its election manifesto, the YSR Congress promised that Rs 12,500 per annum to every farmer will be given and as the amount is less than that offered by the Telugu Desam Party, the new government will also provide free crop insurance plus interest-free loans to the farmers

All these problems came up for discussion at the review meeting held yesterday (6th June 2019) and the new Chief Minister gave instructions to the officials that stern steps must be taken to control the danger of spurious seeds in Andhra PradeshThe CM told that “Stern action must be taken against dealers and companies selling spurious seeds as well as pesticides. If required, the state government will come up with a new act to control such malpractices. 

The minister also asked the officials to make guidelines & prepare the ground for establishing a price stabilisation fund (Rs 3,000 crores) to assist farmers in the state.
