Farmers in Vijayawada, Guntur, and Ongole received power transformers from the Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Corporation on Tuesday in return for the 50,280 newly released agriculture services.

The transformers were distributed by People representatives at events planned for all three locations. Through a teleconference, Padma Janardhan Reddy, the chairman and managing director of APCPDCL, briefed the energy minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and the special chief secretary for energy Vijayanand.

According to him, the state government has approved 50,280 new agricultural connections under the control of CPDCL and would give farmers free transformers as part of the high voltage distribution plan. Aside from the cost of the transformers, the electricity department or DISCOMs would also be responsible for the cost of drawing electrical lines up to 180 metres.

Farmers have been urged by the CPDCL chairman to work with the electrical department to complete the process of issuing them agricultural connections. According to the CMD, the transformers will boost the daytime power supply system for the agricultural sector.

The state government has promised to keep the free power scheme going for another 25 years. Thousands of farmers would profit from its implementation of the direct benefit transfer scheme, the CMD stated.

According to the CMD, putting metres for agricultural connections will assist farmers understand how much free power they are using and how much money is being spent on it. By doing this, power companies wouldn't be able to pass on their losses to farmers.

He ruled out the possibility of the state government limiting the total number of free power connections and asserted that it would authorise new agricultural connections depending on demand and regularise unauthorised and additional load connections.

According to the CMD, the state government's primary goal is to ensure that all farmers in the state have access to free electricity and raise their standard of living.
