The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) members called for a "bandh" in Gandhinagar on September 5.

The BKS members have reportedly been demonstrating since last week urging the state government to address the pending issues affecting Gujarati farmers but so far, no communication between the state administration and the BKS officials has been held.

Ramesh Patel, the general secretary of the Gujarat BKS said we are appealing to people and traders of Gandhinagar and rural areas to support this bandh on Monday. He made it clear that there are no plans to block roads toward the city or even the state Secretariat because the BKS does not have a huge support base in Gandhinagar. Moreover, today’s bandh would only be allowed in areas of trade and business.

  • The BKS's demands include applying the same tariff to agriculture consumers.

  • The farmers are also demanding a 12-hour power supply.

State BKS President Jagmal Arya stated that the BJP would have supported the BKS in 1987 when the Congress was in power in the state, citing the history of the farmers' protest of that year.

He added, "The Congress misused power and 18 farmers died as a result of the police shooting, and yet it is still striving to regain control of the state."

Arya said that the BJP will suffer the same consequences as Congress if it ignored the demands of the farmers.
