Chhattisgarh government is all set to purchase cow urine from cattle ranchers, which will be further used to make pest control products, as per an official. The scheme will be launched by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, under which the government will purchase cow urine at a minimum cost of Rs 4 per litre.

According to him, the programme will be launched at 'Hareli,' a local festival to be held in Karsa village, Patan block, Durg district. He added that the purchase of cow urine will begin in Raipur from a 'gauthan' (livestock shelter) at Navagaon (L) under Abhanpur block and village Badgaon under Arang block.

The purchased dung is used on a large scale to produce organic manure, which is then used by farmers in their fields, promoting organic farming in the state.

"Following the success of the cow dung procurement scheme, the government has decided to purchase cow urine." The purchased urine will be used to make pest control products as well as 'Jeevamrut' (liquid organic fertilizer)," according to the official.

The scheme aims to reduce the use of expensive chemical pesticides while also promoting organic farming in the state by making organic pesticides available to farmers at low cost.

"In the last two years, the state government has purchased over Rs 150 crore in cow dung, and self-help groups (SHGs) have produced over 20 lakh quintals of vermicompost, super compost, and super plus compost from it," he added.
