Agnys Garbage Management Private Limited, a start-up incubated at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, has invented an autonomous composting system that can convert waste to manure in just 10-20 days, making it a step toward sustainable and effective waste management.

The machine is called BHOOMI by the start-up, which stands for Bio-composting of horticulture and organic waste into manure indigenously.

Agnys Waste Management was founded in the Start-up Incubation and Innovation Centre at IIT Kanpur. According to a press release from the institution, the waste management firm has made a substantial contribution to climate change mitigation by developing an effective waste management machine.

The Imagineering Lab at IIT Kanpur collaborated on the development of the BHOOMI automatic composting machine. Engineer's India Limited contributed to the research and development of this automatic composting machine.

The innovative equipment is fitted with carbon filters, shredders, air pumps, and solar panels to turn waste into manure. BHOOMI can convert waste to manure automatically in 10 to 20 days, depending on a variety of conditions. According to IIT Kanpur, it is a faster and more efficient technique of waste management than the currently existing technology.

"Proper waste management has always been a very pertinent and vital issue, especially in metropolitan areas," Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT Kanpur, stated of BHOOMI. It directly affects the ever-increasing concern about climate change. At IIT Kanpur, we are committed to working on environmental sustainability and other important issues. This is a significant step forward in this regard, and I congratulate the entire team on the development of BHOOMI.

This device, I feel, would be a miracle in terms of processing organic waste and would make a substantial contribution to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives."
