Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transferred Rs 17,000 crore directly into the bank accounts of 8.5 crore farmers under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana on Sunday (9th August 2020).
PM said the scheme has been successful in providing financial support to the farmers without any involvement of middlemen. It is important to mention that Government provides Rs 6,000 /year in three equal installments under PM-Kisan scheme that was launched in December 2018.
An official statement said that the PM Modi "released the sixth installment under the PM-KISAN scheme of Rs 17,000 crore to around 8.5 crore farmers. The cash benefit was transferred directly to their Aadhaar verified bank accounts with the press of a button".

The money was transferred to the farmers during a function organized through video conference to launch a financial facility of Rs 1 lakh crore under Agriculture Infrastructure Fund. Modi said, "No middlemen, no commission and the amount was transferred directly to the farmers".
He added PM-Kisan scheme has been successful in its objective to provide direct help to the Annadatta. Modi further said that the Centre has transferred Rs 75,000 crore to cultivators under PM-Kisan yojana in the last one-and-a-half years, out of which Rs 22,000 crore was remitted during the lockdown period.
Padhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana was launched to provide minimum income support in form of cash benefit to all small and marginal farmers to enable them to fulfill their agricultural requirements & support their families.
With this latest transfer, PM-Kisan scheme has provided more than Rs 90,000 crore to over 10 crore farmers since its launch in 2018, the statement said.
