The Agriculture Department has requested the farmers to insure their crops for protection from natural disasters. The process of getting insurance for Kharif -2020 has started in most states.

Farmers who have taken crop loans with Kisan Credit Card, their crop itself comes under the purview of insurance. Other farmers can insure the crop as per their choice. Moreover, crop insurance can also be done at Common Services Centers.

Every year, floods, storms, hailstorms, heavy rains or drought have spoiled a large number of farmers' crops. To protect crops from natural havoc, the Central Government has launched Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) on 13th January 2016. As per reports, the Agricultural Insurance Company of India (AIC) runs this scheme across the states.
