When education is useful in assisting individuals, it serves its purpose. In Tamil Nadu, a similar scenario of training and layman abilities coming together to generate a better future for the farming business has been observed.
A group of final-year college students from Anbil Dharmalingam Agricultural College and Research Institute is on a ninety-day mission to help farmers in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu.
These college students have studied agriculture and have vast knowledge of crops and farming, which allows them to help farmers by organizing camps for them. The mission will be extended to 90 days beginning on February 1 in the Veppanthattai block of the Perambalur district. The scholars' purpose in this mission will be to educate farmers about crops such as maize, cotton, sugarcane, and onion.
The students have discovered a leaf twister disease in the onion crop thus far in their mission.
Students devised a remedy and informed the farmers about it. The Farmers are unaware of the leaf twister illness in the onion crop. The students have increased awareness about the ailments and devised remedies to assist farmers.
Now, the situation is better since many farmers have been educated about many aspects of their crops that they were previously unaware of. To deal with the leaf twister disease, a handful of farmers are using native seeds. They are now aware that hybrid seeds can put a negative effect on the crop. Even re-sowing the seeds from the crops is not good for the crop.
The students are working together in the areas of Veeranganur, Annamangalam, V Kalathur, and Valikandapuram.
The leaf twister disease in the onion crop was discovered by students at a field near Valikandapuram. Not only that, but the students also helped farmers in learning about fertilizer pricing and talked about authentic ways of cultivation.
