Telengana Government asked to Waive Farmers’ Loans

Telengana govt has been asked to waive all loans of state farmers in just one go. They have also demanded few other things. Rythu Bandhu Samiti is actively involved in this

The State government of Telengana has been asked by the Telangana Rythu Sangham to waive the loans of all farmers, including tenant farmers and farm labourers, in just single process. Mr. T Sagar, General Secretary of the association wrote a letter to State Agriculture Minister S Nirajan Reddy asking the State government to solve all the issues around land records, in addition to extending Rythu Bandhu scheme to tenant farmers. 

The Rythu Bandhu Scheme

As per http://rythubandhu.telangana.gov.in/ a new scheme called “Agriculture Investment Support Scheme” (Rythu Bandhu) is proposed for implementation, from year 2018-19 Kharif season onwards, in order to take care of initial investment needs of every farmer.  Objective is to ensure that the farmers do not fall again in to the debt trap A budget of Rs.12,000 Crores has been provided for the financial year 2018-19 by Government of Telangana. Relieving the Farmers from debt burden and not allowing them to fall in the debt trap again, Rythu Bandhu Scheme is proposed by Government of Telangana for providing Investment Support Agriculture and Horticulture crops by way of grant of Rs. 4,000/- per acre per farmer each season for purchase of inputs like Seeds, Fertilizers, Pesticides, Labour and other investments in the field operations of Farmer’s choice for the crop season. 

The association has requested for a comprehensive survey of land and updation of land records in the State. The association demanded that the State make arrangements to give tenant farmers access to institutional credit, and expressed the need for the government to discuss the crop regulation system with farmers’ unions and political parties. A comprehensive crop policy was asked to prepare from the government side, based on feedback of the farmers.There were allegations from the Rythu Sangham about the Centre announcing the lockdown without taking any measures to safeguard the interests of farmers. So according to the association, this resulted in farmers incurring heavy losses in the Rabi season, specially the vegetable farmers and dairy farmers.
