Know all about Hydro seeding; How it works, Cost incurred, Advantages and Much More

Hydroseeding is the quickest and most efficient method of building up vegetation (grass etc.) on barren soil surfaces. Mixtures contain water, seed, fertilizer, mulch etc. Hydroseeding is an emerging technique in India. The cost involves Rs. 25 to 35 per square foot of land. Advantages include quicker growth, less water requirement etc.

Hydroseeding is the quickest and most efficient method of building up vegetation (grass etc.) on barren soil surfaces for soil adjustment projects, slope reduction, erosion control, controlling dust, regrowing vegetation, and so on and so forth.

This technique is best applied in areas, where soil erosion is prevalent and the area is hard to access. The method is utilized broadly in the US and in Europe particularly on road construction projects. Since hydroseeding involves splashing "fluid" seed utilizing powerful sprayers it is a lot simpler, quicker, cheaper, and more dependable than regular strategies for planting grass.

How Hydroseeding works?

Hydroseeding includes showering a blend of water, seed, manure, and protective mulch, all mixed in a tank and force sprayed onto the field or ground. Other agents for boosting growth and Copolymers for moisture are added based upon soil conditions and the availability of water in the area.

Water:

Water acts both as a transporter and the agent to kick start the growth in the seeds.

Seed:

Any seed can be used in hydroseeding such as grass, wild flowers, seeds for erosion control etc. Seed application rate in the mix remains the same as normal standards.

Fertilizer:

Fertilizer is a part of the mix and phosphorus in most cases is used to boost the growth process.

Mulch:

Green colour is because of the mulch. Mulch protects the seed and locks moisture for better growth. Mulch is mostly prepared from paper and wood products.

Hydroseeding is an emerging concept in India. Even in current times, Grass is developed using the old conventional way, which is time taking, tedious and costly as well. Also the old technique does not guarantee the outcome. The arrangement is hydroseeding is reasonable, quick, and since the seeds are encased within a mix of water and compost, it develops rapidly with next to zero addition of water.

Most parts of India have a tremendous issue with dust. It is all over the place and makes all that in India look old and messy. Grassing or clearing of open patches of dry land is an extremely straightforward and inexpensive solution to this issue.

Costing in Hydroseeding:

As far as costing is concerned, cost related to labour, seed, mulch, tackifier, fertilizer and water is incurred in hydroseeding. Special equipment is required to spray the mixture into the barren land. Also before spraying of the mixture; seed, mulch and fertilizer has to be mixed properly and carefully for quick germination of the seeds.

The cost is Rs. 25 to 35 per square foot of land.

Hydro seeding Advantages:

- Hydro seeded grass grows quicker. The contact of the seed with water will trigger the germination cycle in less than 3 days compared to 15 to 20 days when done using sod or sowing seeds.

- Since hydro seeding includes showering seed that is exemplified in slurry of compost, the germination rate is extremely high. Also moisture of the slurry lessens the need for water.

- Hydro seeding can be done rapidly and takes one third of the consumed time when compared to regular techniques. This fundamentally decreases the expenses.

- Hydro seeding is useful in covering large areas such as golf course, farms, nearby highway areas etc.

- Hydro seeding is best for those areas which are hard to reach, such as slopes, hillside etc.

- It makes the ground look more appealing and attractive due to the added green colour in the slurry.
