Atis is a medicinal plant, known as Visha or Ativisha in Sanskrit, Atiwish in Marathi and Ati Bakhni Kali in Gujarati. This plant is used in the treatment of many diseases like phlegm, diarrhea, toxin and cough etc. Due to these reasons, there is a huge demand for this plant in the market. In view of this, 75 percent grant is being given by the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) on the cultivation of Atis. Let us now discuss in detail about the cultivation of Atis.
Atis cultivation
Atis is a plant that is cultivated annually. Its stems are straight and usually without branches. The leaves have a smoothness, but are stalkless. The tubers are generally 3 cm in length and in a cone shape.
Climate and soil
This plant can be cultivated up to a height of 2200 meters above sea level. It can be cultivated in summer mines in organic and sandy soils. It needs plenty of air, moisture and sunlight. Its planting material is seed, tuber and stem.
How to Set up nursery
To prepare this plant, put seeds in soil and manure at a distance of 0.05 cm and 2 cm. From February to March, it can be planted from 600 to 1000 meters. Whereas from October to April, up to 1800 to 2200 can be applied.
Planting
First of all, plow the land in the cold season. For transplantation, mix the fertilizer in the soil after 10 to 15 days. Mix 1 liter leaf with soil transplantation at the rate of 150 quintals per hectare. For good yield, the leaf can be mixed at the rate of 70 quintals per hectare.
Irrigation
It is right to start irrigation process early in summer. Irrigation can be done once a week in the dry season.
Management and harvesting
Flowers occur naturally in the alpine regions in the month of September. While the arrival of fruits is till November. After the seeds are ripe, take out the tubers from the soil. The tubers should be dried in a shady place after digging. Dried tubers can be stored in wooden boxes or closed-air polythene bags. You can get about 518 kilograms of tuber from an average one hectare.
