According to Union Minister for Animal Husbandry Sanjeev Balyan, the lumpy skin disease has so far affected around 18.5 lakh cattle nationwide and 12.5 lakh of these cases are from Rajasthan.
The virus, which mostly affects cows, buffaloes, and even deer, has spread to 15 states, but the Union Minister, who is currently on a two-day tour to Rajasthan, said the situation there is serious. He said that the Center has given the Rajasthan government around 30 lakh doses of the anti-virus vaccine.
The Centre has already revealed that since July, around 67,000 cattle have died due to Lumpy Skin Disease. The disease is most common in the eight states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. A few rare cases of the disease have also been reported in Andhra Pradesh and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Balyan advises all states to approach the vaccine trial. This issue is serious, especially in Rajasthan, and the central government is ready to work with anyone on it, he added.
The animal husbandry department claims that Maharashtra is experiencing a rapid spread of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD). It is a viral cutaneous disease that affects cattle. Animals or drinking cow's milk cannot transmit this illness to humans.
There have only been reports of the virus being carried by cows and buffaloes. Humans are not at risk from eating meat or using milk from animals that don't show Lumpy symptoms. Although Lumpy may be treated in animals, the virus can still affect the milk produced by those animals.
Cattle are prone to the viral disease lumpy skin disease, according to studies. Ticks and other insects that feed on blood, such as some species of flies, mosquitoes, and ticks, spread it. It can cause skin nodules, fever, and the death of the cattle.
