Livestock plays a vital role in the rural economy as it provides livelihood to two-thirds of the rural population in India. It contributes to 4.11% of the country’s GDP and 25.6% of total agriculture GDP. According to the 19th livestock census, the population of India's livestock has declined by 3.33% and population of indigenous cattle has decreased by 8.94%.
This can be attributed to the poor health infrastructure & Veterinary Hospital network in India.
People from Delhi & its surroundings need to worry no more! The Veterinary Hospital of Animal Husbandry Unit, Development Department, Govt. of NCT of Delhi is operational 24x7 on all days from July 2018. The hospital is located at the end of the lane between Tis Hazari Courts and St.Stephen Hospital. It is a first-of-its-kind facility in Delhi.
The Veterinary Doctors and medical staff in this hospital work in three shifts on all days. The veterinary Hospital facility for different kind of livestock animals, birds, etc. is available round the clock.
It is also expected that similar veterinary facilities would open in each of the city's eleven districts in the near future. The 'Animal Health and Welfare Policy' was recently announced, and this initiative was conducted as part of it.
The hospital, which was previously only open throughout the day, will now be open in three shifts from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., or 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., according to the helpline. People can get their animals treated 24*7.
To facilitate the operation at the hospital and to help the pet owners, a helpline number – 011-23967555 was launched by the animal husbandry unit of the development department.
This helpline will help the callers to procure detailed information regarding the facilities provided at the hospital.
