Karnataka Poultry Farmers and Breeders Association (KPFBA) is organizing a campaign today to create awareness about the benefits of consuming chicken on the occasion of National Chicken Day.

It is observed that various poultry associations and vendors across the nation are organizing events to boost the per capita consumption of chicken. Also, some have decided to give 10% discount to the customers on the occasion.

Shagun Rai, President of KPFBA told the media that the per capita consumption of chicken in India was very bad 3.1 kg per annum whereas the world average was 17 kg per annum. “This means a vast majority of the population is going without proper nutrition,” he added.

Rai also told that while India was one of the top five producers of poultry meat and eggs in the world, the country ranked poorly in terms of consumption. The sole objective of these campaigns is to increase awareness amongst people about the benefits of consuming chicken and how it will help to boost everyone's immunity.

KPFBA has also planned to involve retail outlets throughout the state in spreading awareness about maintaining hygiene in their outlets and the benefits of consuming chicken.

Chicken is one of the most consumed types of meat across the globe these days. It is not only widely available and simple to prepare, but it can also be found in a variety of preparations and varieties.

Even though chicken is a common dietary staple, you may be wondering how healthy it is.

Benefits of consuming chicken

  • Chicken is high in a variety of essential nutrients and can be an excellent addition to a well-balanced diet.

  • Because chicken is low in calories but high in protein, it may be particularly beneficial for weight loss if that is your goal.

  • Protein supplementation has been shown in studies to improve feelings of fullness, increase weight loss, and help maintain lean body mass.

  • Protein, when combined with resistance training, can also aid in muscle growth Furthermore, protein is involved in calcium metabolism and is essential for bone health.

The USDA recommends limiting protein portion sizes of foods like chicken to two to six and a half ounces per day. Physically active people may require more.

To avoid foodborne illness, store and cook your chicken properly. Cross-contamination during cooking or leaving chicken out for an extended time can result in bacterial growth that can make you very sick.

Despite being a lean protein, chicken contains a trace of cholesterol. If you follow a low-cholesterol diet or are at high risk of heart disease, pay close attention to the amount of cholesterol in the meat you purchase. It never hurts to talk to your doctor or a dietician about what you're eating.
