Shri Chhabilendra Roul, Special Secretary (DARE) & Secretary (ICAR) recently visited the ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner. There; he inaugurated a “Tourist Hut” meant for promotion of tourism activities and products of camel husbandry. He suggested furthering to intensify this activity by including all activities of Camel riding, safari and offering milk products etc. as a combined package so that Camel tourism can be showcased as an economic activity to the farmers. He suggested that overall tourism activity involving all institutes of ICAR located at Bikaner can also be planned which will create awareness and goodwill for ICAR and highlight activities of the all ICAR institutes.
Roul also delivered a lecture on “Administrative Reforms in ICAR: Expectations from Institutes” where he stressed upon the synergy between different institutes and scientific personnel, which will address the issue of the overall welfare of arid region farmers. He said it is important to avoid duplication of the work force and facilities and bring cohesiveness among different institutes and experts. It is utmost essential in the present context as the farmer dealing with multiple agricultural resources can get benefit from different new technologies developed by ICAR institutes thereby increasing his income.
Dr. N.V. Patil, Director, NRCC briefed about the Centre’s mandate and achievement. Dr. P.L. Saroj, Director, ICAR-CIAH also described about activities and recent achievements of the institutes. All the staff from local ICAR institutes participated in the event.
