Without a proper container and potting soil, your houseplant won't have the appropriate access to nutrients and base support, hence will not thrive.  I am sure you can find pots and soil in your local stores easily, but in order to grow big and beautiful plants, you might need a little more than that.

Below are some things that you definitely should consider before planting an indoor plant. Also, find some suggestions by which you can grow healthy plants in your house without making any major changes.

Creating a perfect medium

A perfect medium consists of the proper amount of water retention and drainage, along with supporting and feeding your plant.

But the question remains, how can you create one?

Every plant requires a different plant medium. For example, a cactus will not thrive in humus-rich, moist soil as it can only survive in arid and sandy soil.

But you can still grow many plants from a single kind of medium. With this kind of medium, most houseplants are going to thrive well.

Almost all kinds of houseplants thrive in loose and airy soil. These kinds of soil allow a constant flow of oxygen and nutrients and also allow them to reach the roots.

 The Essential Ingredients

To make the most basic kind of medium, we will require some ingredients. Firstly, it will require an ingredient by which the plant could retain its water, and also it should improve the drainage.

Secondly, there should be an ingredient to provide nutrition to the plant and also create some space in the substrate to allow the air to move freely.

You would also require something to support the plant and provide it with structure and anchor. Fortunately, there are multipurpose ingredients available in the market.

Given is the list of some ingredients along with the functions they perform.

1. Compost-

It is typically made up of waste products of organic matter and serves the purpose of supporting the plant and retaining water.

2. Fertilizers-

These can be both synthetic and natural. It is added to soil to provide the plant with nutrients.

3. Coco Coir-

It is made up of coconut husk. It provides the plant with airflow, proper drainage, and water retention.
