Now, it's possible to link your driver's license to your Aadhaar Card.

Aadhaar is currently necessary in order to obtain government benefits under various programs. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has reportedly started to explore easy ways to connect Aadhaar with Indian citizens' driver's licenses. The Aadhaar Card is recognized as identification documentation for everything from job applications to receiving government benefits. Here are some quick procedures for linking your driving license and Aadhaar card.

Advantages of Linking a Driver's Licence to an Aadhaar Card

  • The entire operation will be brought under one roof by linking Aadhar to a driver's license.

  • Authorized agencies in India will be able to obtain and validate each car owner's license information due to the Aadhaar-based unified platform.

  • Genuine and counterfeit driver's licenses will be identifiable by authorized agencies.

  • If a person has several licenses, transportation authorities will be able to spot forged documents and take the necessary action.

  • A centralized online database will store the data provided by the drivers. The information will be available across India, prohibiting the issuance of duplicate licenses.

  • The entire procedure will be carried out electronically. Instead of using manual processes, people will receive their driving license 72 hours after completing their driving test.

Simple steps on Linking Aadhaar with Driving Licences Online

Each state or union territory's Road Transport Department is responsible for issuing driving licenses. As a result, each state has a different online process for linking Aadhaar to driving licenses. The main procedure won't change, though. The steps for online Aadhaar and driving license linking are as follows:

  • Go to the website of your state/department UTs of transportation.

  • Select the "Aadhaar Link" option.

  • Select "Driving License" from the drop-down menu.

  • Now enter your driver's license number and select "Get Details."

  • Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and mobile number in the appropriate fields (Remember that your mobile number should be the one registered with UIDAI)

  • To finish the process, click the "Submit" button.

  • You will then receive the OTP on your registered mobile device.

  • Enter the OTP to finish linking Aadhaar to driving licenses.

Can you link your e-Aadhaar card to your driving license?

Yes, you can link your e-Aadhaar card to your driver's license. Whether you have an e-Aadhaar or a physical copy of it has no effect. This is because, regardless of whether you obtained it through your e-Aadhaar or a printed copy of the same, you only need to enter the 12-digit number on your Aadhaar card, which is the same everywhere.
