From 2002 to 2013, the population of Central African forest elephants declined by 65%, accompanied by a 30% reduction in their territory. Savannah elephants in certain regions have also experienced significant declines. Recent surveys indicate a 60% decrease in Tanzania and a 40% decrease in Mozambique over the past five years.
