International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)

IRRI is a leading research institute dedicated to advancing rice science and combating hunger and poverty worldwide. Established in 1960 with support from the Ford and Rockefeller foundations and the Philippine government, IRRI operates as an independent, non-profit organization. With over 1,000 staff and offices in 17 rice-growing countries, IRRI focuses on developing resilient rice varieties and collaborating with partners to address challenges such as pests, diseases, and climate change. In collaboration with the Government of India, IRRI has established the IRRI-South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. ISARC serves as a hub for research, training, and service provision to support agriculture in India and neighboring countries.
