Ecotourism is a conscious effort to preserve the beauty of a naturally gifted region and conserve wildlife in their natural habitat. In the process, ecotourism glorifies offbeat places, their rich culture, and traditions. Sikkim has been a leading state in Tourism.
The state’s congenial climatic conditions, rich biodiversity, view of mountains and valleys, , pristine lakes and forests, flowers and treks, Buddhist monasteries and cultural festivals are key constitutes of the state tourism.
Ecotourism in Sikkim started in the year 1995-96 with trainings, awareness, changes in regulations to adapt to the mountainous terrain and entry of foreign tourists in many of restricted & protected areas. Gradual involvement of the people with village tourism activities has further enhanced the concept of ecotourism of Sikkim.
