The practice of abstaining from food is termed as fasting. One can fast by abstaining from too much food, or by eating nothing at all.  Fasting has now turned out to be a dietary practice. However, many people also fast for religious purposes. Like during the month of Ramadan, when people eat nothing at all.

Fasting for Ramadan includes fasting for almost 15 hours, from dawn to sunset. Now according to a latest research from Texas' Baylor College of Medicine, fasting in this pattern, for a month, can help in raising insulin resistance. This in turn helps in fighting effects of diets rich in fats and sugar.

Adding to it, now a latest study has suggested that the kind of fasting done in the Holy month of Ramadan helps in fighting obesity.

Therefore, people who are trying to lose weight or maintain good health can gain some benefits by fasting. Intermittent fasting is also a healthy way of reducing weight.

Though, many people now do fasting for detox, weight loss or giving a boost to metabolism. Along with these health benefits, studies have also found that fasting can help fight ageing by giving a boost to metabolism, and it can also improve gut health and strengthen circadian rhythms.

Intermittent fasting is good for weight loss and maintaining good health. It is an eating pattern which involves fasting for 12, 14 or 16 hours, as it suits your body. One can opt for fasting through the day or for fasting through the night. Usually, it is recommended to do by having early dinners, around 7 or 8 pm. After which, your fasting period starts. During your fasting period, you are only supposed to drink water, that too in controlled amounts.
