Coromandel International, a leading agro-chemical firm, has unveiled a lineup of 10 new products, including patented innovations, aimed at enhancing crop yields and safeguarding harvests against pests and diseases.
Among the new offerings are a groundbreaking neem-coated bio plant and soil health promoter, along with five generic formulations, providing holistic crop protection solutions tailored for Indian farmers.
In a strategic partnership with Japan's ISK, Coromandel has launched "Prachand," a patented product leveraging Japanese technology to shield paddy crops from devastating pests like stem borers and leaf folders, which have the potential to inflict yield losses of up to 70 percent.
Additionally, the firm has engineered a specialized formulation to combat the fall armyworm, a highly destructive pest notorious for causing substantial damage, affecting up to 30 percent of India's corn crop annually.
Further bolstering its arsenal against crop diseases, Coromandel has introduced two patented fungicides designed to enhance crop health and productivity. One of these fungicides promises enduring control over sheath blight disease in rice, while the other offers both surface and systemic action against diseases prevalent in potatoes, grapes, and tomatoes.
These new product launches come at a critical juncture as Indian farmers grapple with escalating pest attacks, posing significant challenges to crop output. Notably, Coromandel reported that its sales from new products accounted for 15 percent of total sales in the fiscal year ending March 2024.
Raghuram Devarakonda, Executive Director of Coromandel's crop protection and bioproducts division, remarked that it is the first time that Coromandel has introduced 10 new products in a single year. Devarakonda highlighted that these launches encompass collaborations with Japanese partners and significant contributions from in-house research, underscoring the company's commitment to driving agricultural innovation in India.
