Ayurveda, a natural system of medicine, originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. The term Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words, 'Ayur' which means life, and 'Veda', science or knowledge. Ayurveda is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. It is an ancient Indian practice and is still keeping millions of people healthy. Thanks to ayurvedic practitioners all around the world. One such ayurvedic practitioner is Dr. Smrita Naram, Co-founder of Ayushakti, with whom we interacted. She is a well-accomplished ayurvedic physician, pharmaceutical herbalist, and nutritionist.

Binita Kumari from Krishi Jagran did an interview session with Dr. Smrita Naram about Ayurvedic Home Remedies and Ayushakti. Below is the given interview.

Tell us about your Ayurveda experience and what attracted you to Ayurveda in the first place?

I was born in a family with my past 4 generations being Ayurveda practitioners. So, since childhood whenever something went wrong mostly my father gave me only Ayurvedic medicines, nothing else. I met my late husband Dr. Pankaj Naram who inspired me to join Ayurveda training and we met our master, who at that time was 114 years of age. And just by giving simple dietary advice or home remedies, some herbal formulas, he was creating magical results.

Tell us how Ayushakti started? How did it all begin?

Me and my husband, Dr. Pankaj Naramstarted practicing in 1987. As soon as we started doing this pulse reading training people were having remarkable results and our practice grew just by referrals. And then in just two years, we had one very remarkable complicated case from Europe. That patient suffered from hepatitis C, a very severe infection. So, through somebody's reference, she came to see us. And we started a very strict program for the liver with a lift on a tablet. A strict diet with certain vegetables that are good for the liver. So, she improved so quickly that within 15 days her level went down. We were invited by this woman to Italy and we met a group of 60 medical doctors we presented the results we are creating in different fields and they were so interested that they came to learn about our study.

There are numerous scientific results on the efficiency of Ayurveda. People still have a hard time relying on Ayurveda for treatment. So, who would you think can change their mind on this?

I just understood one thing from my experience ever since we started our practice, all the people that came to us only came because of the results and nothing else. So, we follow very strict quality control because the reason behind not having faith in Ayurveda is connected with the result. The expected result is not there because you have to be very clear. Like we do extremely stringent quality control. Starting from the collection of herbs. You have to make sure you're using the right quality. Ayurveda practice a very pure way of products. So, I believe that people don't trust Ayurveda, they trust the results.

You are an expert on Marma. So, can you please explain to our viewers what marma is exactly?

Marma is something where you press certain points and suddenly the blockage is released and you will suddenly relief in a lot of things. For example, if you are not having good sleep. So, people can do simple home remedies in which you can take either almond milk or regular milk, add a quarter teaspoon of the jailer, nutmeg powder, half teaspoon of cardamom powder, and 1 teaspoon of ghee. And just drink this warm before you go to bed. And when you're lying down in the bed, just do a panga marma. Apply ghee to the temple of your head, in the circular moment. Do this for 5 minutes. And every day you will find your quality of sleep is improving. Simple marma can help you.

What would you suggest for someone who has severe asthma?

Asthma is related to excessive mucus produced in the stomach and excessive gas which is bringing this mucus up in the respiratory region. So, we have to first make sure that digestion is improved to such an extent that new mucus is not produced. So, warm ginger water is the best product. Just keep sipping warm ginger water every day. The second thing we need to do is work on the immune system. Because most asthma is either due to an autoimmune attack on the internal lung or all the channels of the respiratory or because of an infection.
