Central Government Employees will get double surprise in July

7th pay Commission Update: Amidst the rising inflation, we have a piece of good news for Central government employees! According to several media reports, lakhs of Central government employees will soon get a hike in the dearness allowance (DA).

The Central Government generally makes announcements regarding dearness allowance in March & September every year. But, for one-and-a-half years after December 31, 2019, there was no hike in the DA due to the pandemic. The government had stopped the DA hike from January 2020 till June 30, 2021 because of the COVID. However, it was restored last year in July.

On the  recommendations of 7th Pay Commission, the dearness allowance for all Central government employees was increased in July 2021 to 28% from 17%. Then in October 2021, the DA was hiked by more than 3 times.  From July 1, 2021, the employees received DA at the rate of 31%.

Besides, the central government employees received three-time hike in DA on January 1, 2022. Now, the new DA hike will come into effect from 1st July 2022 onwards. They will also get arrears due to them from a long period.

If the DA is increased then on the basis of the recommendations of the 7th CPC, on a basic pay of Rs 18,000, there will be a hike of Rs 540 in DA. If the basic pay is Rs 25,000 then the dearness allowance hike will be Rs 750 /month. Those who get Rs 50,000 as basic pay, would get a DA hike of Rs 1,500/month.

Besides hike in DA, they will get an increase in their basic pay with the addition of fitment factor, as there are rumors that Government may also approve a hike in the fitment factor.

The central government employees’ association has been demanding an increase in fitment factor from 2.57 times to 3.68 times.

If the government accepts their demand, then the basic pay of government employees will also go up from Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000. Earlier, the government had increased the salary at the entry level in 2017. At that time, the basic salary was increased to Rs 18,000 from Rs 7,000. If the fitment factor is hiked, the employees are likely to get a hike in their basic pay in July along with an increased DA.
