7th Pay Commission Update: Central Govt. Employees Can Get Tax Relief! Check Details

Should a Central Government Employee file any documentation to get relief under Section 89 of the Income Tax if they have salary arrears by the 7th Pay Commission's recommendation? To seek relief under Section 80, it is required by tax regulations that a government employee submit form 10E online using the Income Tax e-filing website.

A letter from the Income Tax Department indicating that "The relief under Section 89 has not been allowed in your case, as the online form 10E has not been filed" may be issued by taxpayers who request Section 89 relief without submitting Form 10E. As a result, you must submit Form 10E online before submitting your income tax return.

How to file form 10E?

Follow the instructions listed below to file a form 10E on account of a government employee:

Step 1: Access incometax.gov.in by logging in.

Step 2: After logging in, select the e-File tab and then click on File Income Tax Forms. Choose the option "tax Exemption and Reliefs/Form 10E)" on the landing page.

The wage, pension, and other benefits that Central Government employees get are determined by the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations. All employees are required to file income tax returns (ITR). For salaried personnel, the deadline to file returns for Assessment Year 2022–2023 was July 31, 2022. By this deadline, more than 5.8 crore returns had been submitted.

How much salary revision for central government employees is expected?

According to a recent announcement by the government in the parliament, revisions to the payments paid to central government employees may be made at any time per the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations. Creating a new compensation commission for this specific purpose might not be required.

The Government did note, however, that it was untrue to assert that there would be no 8th Central Pay Commission going forward.

The second half of the fiscal year will bring about another adjustment to the Dearness Allowance rate for Central Government Employees. A choice regarding this could be made soon and announced.
