The Agripreneurship Development Program (ADP) on Fostering Entrepreneurship for Varietal & Hybrid Vegetable Seed Production is set to take place from December 9-14, 2024. The training aims to enhance participants' understanding of maintaining hybrid parental lines across various genetic mechanisms of male sterility. It also seeks to strengthen agripreneurs' skills and knowledge for hybrid seed production in vegetable crops.
Objectives of Agripreneurship Development Program (ADP):

To provide an understanding on the maintenance of hybrid parental lines across diverse genetic mechanisms of male sterility.

To strengthen the skills and knowledge of agripreneurs for hybrid seed production in vegetable crops.

To educate on post-harvest handling methods to ensure quality assurance in vegetable seed production.

To apprise about regulatory requirements governing seed production, certification standards and intellectual property rights associated with hybrid seed varieties.
Outcomes:
Agripreneurs will gain knowledge and a deep understanding of varietal & hybrid seed production principles, techniques and best practices in vegetable crops. They will be introduced to genetic mechanisms of male sterility available in various vegetable crops. They will be equipped with the necessary theoretical knowledge to successfully undertake hybrid seed production ventures and develop practical skills in controlled pollination, crop management, seed processing and quality assurance through hands-on training sessions and field demonstrations.
The training will teach participants the post-harvest handling techniques for seeds, including cleaning, drying, sorting and storage as well as quality control measures to maintain seed purity and viability in various vegetable crops. Agripreneurs will be better prepared to develop comprehensive business plans and execute successful vegetable seed production ventures. It will familiarize participants with relevant regulations governing seed production, certification standards and intellectual property rights associated with hybrid seed varieties.
Overall, the training program's outcomes for agripreneurs include empowerment with knowledge, skills and resources to establish and manage successful hybrid seed production ventures, thereby driving innovation, productivity and sustainability in the agricultural sector.
