Alert! Cyclone ‘Maha’ Likely to Cause Severe Rainfall in These States; Light Shower over Delhi-NCR

The Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Maha' (M'maha) that was expected to make landfall in Gujarat coastal line has been hovering over the east-central & adjoining northeast Arabian Sea moved eastwards with a speed of 21 kmph during past 06 hours, weakened into a Cyclonic Storm and lay centered at 1730 hours IST of today over east-central & adjoining northeast Arabian Sea near Latitude 19.7°N and Longitude 67.7°E, about 300 km southwest of Porbandar (Gujarat), 310 km west-southwest of Veraval (Gujarat) and 350 km west-southwest of Diu.

The Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Maha' (M'maha) that was expected to make landfall in Gujarat coastal line has been hovering over the east-central & adjoining northeast Arabian Sea moved eastwards with a speed of 21 kmph during past 06 hours, weakened into a Cyclonic Storm and lay centered at 1730 hours IST of today over east-central & adjoining northeast Arabian Sea near Latitude 19.7°N and Longitude 67.7°E, about 300 km southwest of Porbandar (Gujarat), 310 km west-southwest of Veraval (Gujarat) and 350 km west-southwest of Diu.

On the other hand, gloomy weather has been prevailing over the national capital today along with a light shower which is expected to improve the severe air pollution and air quality index.

Under the influence of cyclone 'Maha', it’s likely to occur heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Gujarat region & Saurashtra coasts during next 48 hours and isolated heavy falls likely over Jammu & Kashmir during next 48 hours and over Himachal Pradesh and Punjab on 7th, said IMD in its morning bulletin.

Moreover, the weather department also predicts, “It is very likely to move east-northeastwards, weaken further into a Deep Depression by today morning, over northeast & adjoining east-central the Arabian Sea which is likely to skirt Saurashtra coast and lie centered about 40 km south of Diu around noon of 7th November as a Deep Depression. Continuing to move east northeastwards, It is very likely to weaken further into a depression by tomorrow evening.”

The Deep Depression over east-central & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal moved slightly northwards with a speed of 02 kmph during 06 hours and lay centered at 1730 hours IST of today, the 6th November 2019. It is very likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm during the next 12 hours and into a Severe Cyclonic Storm during the subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move northwestwards for some time and then north-northwestwards towards West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts.

On the other hand, maximum temperatures were reported appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Rayalaseema; at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal while minimum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at a few places over Gujarat region and at isolated places over East Rajasthan, Saurashtra & Kutch, East Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.

Weather in Delhi and NCR has been pleasant since morning with light showers at many places. Rain may give relief to Delhiites who have been experiencing severe air pollution since the last few days.
