Alert! Heavy Rain & Gusty Wind over These Region; Fishermen Advised Not to Venture from 18th May

The low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining the south Andaman Sea now lies as Well Marked Low-Pressure Area over southeast Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood. Associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric levels. It is very likely to concentrate into a Depression over central parts of south Bay of Bengal on tomorrow, the 15th May and further intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over the same region by 16th May evening.

The low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea now lies as Well Marked Low Pressure Area over southeast Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood. Associated cyclonic circulation extends upto mid-tropospheric levels. It is very likely to concentrate into a Depression over central parts of south Bay of Bengal on tomorrow, the 15th May and further intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over the same region by 16th May evening. Under the influence of Western Disturbance, scattered to fairly widespread rain/thundershowers likely over Western Himalayan region and isolated to scattered activity likely over plains of Northwest India during next 2 days, says the Indian Meteorological Department reports in its morning bulletin.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into Odisha-West Bengal coasts from 18th May onwards and those out at sea are advised to return to the coast.

Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers with lightning and gusty winds likely to Lash over Southern Coastal

Due to trough/wind discontinuity, scattered to fairly widespread rain/thundershowers with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely over south peninsular India during next 3-4 days along with isolated heavy rainfall activity over parts of the region during the same period.

Under its influence, Squally weather conditions with wind speed of the order of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely to prevail over Andaman Sea during 15th-17th, along & off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts on 18th; wind speed of the order of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely over southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining southwest & central Bay of Bengal on 15th. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas during these periods.

Isolated thunderstorm accompanied with hail, gusty winds & lightning is also likely over these regions during the same period.

 Northeastern states are likely to continue to experience scattered to fairly widespread rain/thundershowers during next 3 days. Isolated to scattered rain/thundershowers also likely over adjoining Eastern states during this period. Isolated heavy rain very likely over Assam & Meghalaya during 15th-16th; 2020.

As per yesterday’s reports, rain/thundershowers observed (from 0830 to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at most places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad; at many places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; at a few places over Punjab and Kerala & Mahe and at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, West Madhya Pradesh, North & South Interior Karnataka and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

Thunderstorm observed (From 1130 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday) at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Assam & Meghalaya, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, North Interior Karnataka and Kerala.

Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Nagaland and at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal and Kerala & Mahe while minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim.
