M Devraj, Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, emphasized the significance of adopting alternative power resources as an effective solution to address the power supply challenges in agriculture.

During his visit to the IRRI South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC) on Friday, along with other officials, various activities were conducted, including field demonstrations, interactive sessions, and reflections, all focusing on modern agricultural practices and technologies to enhance rice production in Uttar Pradesh.

Devraj expressed deep admiration for ISARC's pioneering research initiatives and their significant impact on the region's rice production. He lauded the institute's dedication to empowering farmers through knowledge dissemination and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

During discussions with ISARC scientists, Devraj explored the potential of alternate power resources and their adaptation to tackle agricultural sector power supply challenges, leading to potential benefits for farmers' income.

He also shared the state government's strong commitment to ensuring farmers' welfare and informed that measures were being taken to ensure a consistent power supply during peak agricultural seasons.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity for the delegates to familiarize themselves with cutting-edge techniques in varietal development and breeding, quality seed production, varietal testing protocols, varietal positioning methods, and agronomic practices for mechanized direct-seeded rice.

Additionally, they gained insights into value chain propositions and post-production practices. The delegates also had the chance to explore state-of-the-art laboratories, the Speed Breed facility, and other farm facilities on the premises. As part of the experience, they even sampled high-value rice products like Kalanamak rice cookies, muesli, and instant upma, which were developed by ISARC scientists.

Overall, the visit showcased the importance of sustainable agricultural practices, technological advancements, and the role of alternative power resources in ensuring a robust and efficient power supply for agriculture, while also contributing to the well-being of farmers in Uttar Pradesh.
