Anthurium flowers from Mizoram have been exported to Singapore for the first time, marking a significant milestone for India’s floriculture export sector. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture of the Government of Mizoram, facilitated the dispatch of this first consignment from Aizawl on February 26, 2025. This achievement highlights the growing potential of the North Eastern Region (NER) in the international floriculture market.

The ceremonial flag-off was held in a hybrid format, led by APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev and Special Secretary, Department of Horticulture, Government of Mizoram, Ramdinliani. Officials from APEDA, the Department of Horticulture, Zo Anthurium Growers Cooperative Society, IVC Agrovet Pvt. Ltd., and Veg Pro Singapore Pte. Ltd. also participated, celebrating the successful export initiative.

The consignment included 1,024 Anthurium cut flowers, weighing 70 kg and packed in 50 corrugated boxes. Exported by IVC Agrovet Pvt. Ltd., the flowers were sourced from the Zo Anthurium Growers Cooperative Society in Aizawl and transported via Kolkata. Veg Pro Singapore Pte. Ltd. served as the importer, facilitating the entry of Mizoram’s floriculture products into the international market.

Mizoram is known for its high-quality Anthurium cultivation, which plays a vital role in the local economy, particularly in empowering farmers, including women. The state also hosts the annual “Anthurium Festival,” a popular event that promotes the flower’s aesthetic and ornamental value while boosting tourism.

The success of this export initiative follows the International Conclave cum Buyer-Seller Meet (IBSM) organized by APEDA and the Government of Mizoram on December 6, 2024. The conclave attracted nine international buyers from countries including Singapore, UAE, Nepal, Jordan, Oman, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Ethiopia, along with 24 domestic exporters, creating valuable trade linkages and market expansion opportunities.

India’s floriculture exports reached USD 86.62 million in the financial year 2023-2024, and this consignment from Mizoram to Singapore strengthens the North Eastern Region’s position as a key player in the sector.

With its abundant natural resources and skilled growers, the NER holds immense potential for expanding horticultural and floricultural exports.
