A team of experts from Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana visited Mehal Kalan, Block Mehal Kalan the one of the five selected villages, under ICAR sponsored project “An Integrated approach for Livestock Development Farmer’s Context”. Dr. S.K. Kansal, Principal Investigator of the project said that training camps regarding Nutrition Technologies for Dairy Animals, Clean Milk Production, quality fodder production and deworming of dairy animals were arranged at Mehal Kalan Village for the beneficiaries/selected families under the project. Experts delivered lectures on various aspects of dairy farming including feeding of oral magnets and also distributed mineral mixture, uromin lick & Bypass fat to the beneficiaries. Nutrition is the basis of production and it incurs 65-70% expenditure of the Dairy farming. To make dairy farming profitable, balanced feeding as per the age, stage of lactation and production of animal is very important. Various Nutrition interventions were shared to get optimum production as well as timely fertility from the milch animals. Clean milk is the demand of the hour and people are getting health conscious and they look for clean milk. In this way the profitability may be improved and on the other hand health of society can be strengthen. Dr. Kansal informed that scientists from Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET) and PAU, Ludhiana were also contributing towards complete upliftment of the beneficiaries. Dr H K Verma, Nodal Officer of the project and Director Extension Education told that feeding of oral magnet is beneficial to control Traumatic Reticulo Peritonitis (TRP) that occurs due to the intake of any sharp foreign object such as Nail, blades etc. along with feed by the animal. These sharp objects move on in the body and penetrate into the Thoracic cavity and to the heart leading to ultimate death of the precious animal. It can be prevented by this oral magnet which holds the sharp iron objects and thus the animal is saved from such upcoming serious problems. Dr. Verma informed that this campaign will remain permanent feature of this project in future also.
