Ayushman Vay Vandana Card scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 29, 2024, has successfully enrolled 25 lakh senior citizens in less than two months. This scheme marks a significant step toward providing inclusive and accessible healthcare for India's elderly population.
Targeting individuals aged 70 and above, the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card extends a free health cover of Rs 5 lakh annually, irrespective of socio-economic status. For those already covered under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), an additional top-up of Rs 5 lakh per year is provided. This initiative also allows senior citizens availing benefits from other schemes, such as the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) and Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), to opt into AB PM-JAY, offering them greater flexibility and access to expansive healthcare benefits.
Since the program's inception, treatments worth over Rs 40 crore have been availed by more than 22,000 beneficiaries. The initiative addresses critical health needs by covering over 2,000 medical procedures, including Coronary Angioplasty, Hip Replacement, Cataract Surgery, Stroke management, and Hemodialysis. Notably, all pre-existing conditions are covered from day one, eliminating waiting periods and ensuring immediate access to essential care.
Registration for the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card is designed to be accessible and user-friendly. Eligible senior citizens can register through empanelled hospitals, the Ayushman app, or the official website (www.beneficiary.nha.gov.in). Additional support is available via a toll-free helpline (14555) or by giving a missed call to 1800110770.
This significant initiative has not only provided financial relief but also enhanced the quality of life for India’s elderly population, addressing their unique healthcare needs comprehensively.
As it continues to expand, the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card promises to set new benchmarks in ensuring healthcare equity for senior citizens across the country.
