On January 13, 2025, President of India, Droupadi Murmu, virtually inaugurated several initiatives of the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation (OMFED) under the National Dairy Development Board from Rashtrapati Bhavan. The initiatives include Cow Induction, Giftmilk, and Market Support, aimed at strengthening the dairy sector in Odisha.

Addressing the event, the President emphasized the critical role of livestock in enhancing rural household income and the overall rural economy. She highlighted India's diverse livestock breeds and their contributions to the country's rich agricultural heritage. President Murmu noted that government efforts have focused on breed improvement and genetic enhancement to support livestock development.

She commended India's remarkable progress in milk production, underlining the significant productivity growth of milch cattle over the last decade. These advancements, she said, are a testament to India's commitment to animal husbandry. However, she pointed out the need for greater efforts in improving animal health, which is vital for enhancing the quality of milk and other animal-based products.

The President praised the objectives of the National Gokul Mission and called for comprehensive efforts across the nation to improve both the quantity and health of livestock. Such initiatives, she added, would contribute significantly to building a healthier India.
