The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has started a provision in its member portal for retired employees to apply for higher pensions in accordance with the Supreme Court's ruling on higher provident fund pensions.

The application form for employees whose applications were previously denied is available via the portal link. Those who retired before to September 1, 2014, can apply for the pension. They have until March 3 to submit their applications.

On December 29, 2022, the EPFO published its inaugural order for implementing the ruling from the supreme court, which was rendered on November 4, 2022.

On Thursday, an EPFO ruling was published that stated applicants whose petitions had previously been denied had the option of a higher pension. The decision was made in light of the RC Gupta v. Regional Provident Fund case (2016).

"In compliance with the direction contained in para 44 (ix) of the judgment (for the case of retirement prior to 01.09.2014), an online facility for filing an application for validation of option is available at Unified portal member interface," says an option in the portal. Employees can click on the option and submit their applications.
