The Supreme Court on Monday (11 Jan 2020) strongly rebuked the Central Government and asked it to withdraw the Farm Laws. Country’s Top Court said that it was disappointed with the way negotiations between the Government and the farmers have progressed and said it will pass an order today (12 Jan 2020) on the matter.

Need of Committee

The court stated the need of committee on the Agricultural Laws, and said that if the committee suggested, it would prohibit the implementation of these agricultural laws. Moreover, the names of all the former CJIs including M. Lodha were given for the post of Chairman of the committee. Along with this, the court said that the government should not give the speech on moderation and patience to the court.

Indication to Withdraw the Laws

While hearing, the Supreme Court clearly questioned the government that whether you will withdraw these farm laws, or we should impose them. Central Government opposed the ban on the new farm laws

Do not Give us a Speech on Moderation

Attorney General K. K. Venugopal on the behalf of Central Government asked for more time. The Supreme Court said, “Mr. Attorney General, we had given you a lot of time, please don’t give us a speech on moderation. At the same time, Supreme Court expressed the disappointment on the negotiations going on between the Centre and the farmers on the agricultural laws

Bench headed by Chief Justice of India, A. S. Bobde and compising of Justice S. S. Bopanna and Justice V. Subramaniam said, “What is going on? The state is revolting against your laws. We are very disappointed with the process of negotiation. We don’t want to give any comments that mislead your conversation, but we are very disappointed through the process.” were also involved in the bench.

Supreme Court Said, “We will Do Our Work”

Court further said that not even a single petition is signed before us in the favour of these three agricultural laws. The Supreme Court told the farmers that we are the top court of India, whether you believe it or not. We will do our work.

And the next meeting between the Centre and farmers regarding the farm laws is scheduled on 15 January. And farmers are still on their decision of the tractor parade in Delhi on 26 January.
