The Khadi and Village Industries Commission(KVIC)  has opened a footwear training centre in the national capital to provide training to the marginalised communities in leather works. The training centre is a first of its kind and will be equipped with all the technologies to provide training.

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises said” The KVIC-CFTI Footwear Training Cum Production Centre” located at Gandhi Darshan Rajghat will provide a comprehensive 2-months training program to leather artisans for making high-quality footwear”.

The centre was established with the help of Central Footwear Training Institute, Agra which is a unit under MSME.

The institute will not only provide training to the artisans but will also provide them with tool kits worth Rs. 5000 so as to help them in starting their own business after their internship.

The ministry in a statement said that the institute was established in a record span of two months but the inauguration was delayed due to the lockdown enforced by COVID-19.

At a time when people have been left unemployed by COVID-19 initiatives like these will certainly help the marginalised communities to recover financially.

The ministry has said that it is looking to establish a second institute in Varanasi.
