Next week, G-20 representatives will take part in a coordinated Mega Beach Clean Up event before attending the Ocean 20 Dialogue in Mumbai to discuss issues including preventing land degradation, improving resource efficiency, and promoting the circular economy.

According to a senior official, the Ocean 20 Dialogue, a component of the Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group, seeks to establish the ocean and the Blue Economy as frequent topics of discussion at the G20 summit.

On May 21, a beach cleaning activity will be conducted at Mumbai's Juhu Beach in the early morning before the delegates attend the Working Group meeting later that day.

On May 21, Indian missions in the G-20 nations will coordinate beach cleaning activities in the corresponding countries to raise awareness about the rising problems of coastal and marine pollution and promote robust community engagement in handling environmental issues.

According to Earth Sciences Secretary M Ravichandran, Technical sessions on the three top priorities of preventing land degradation, promoting resource efficiency and circular economy, and advancing a blue economy that is sustainable and climate resilient will be held after the Ocean 20 Dialogue.

In addition to this, he also said that under the Blue Economy theme, India will put forward the inferences of the technical study on 'Accelerating the Transition to a Sustainable and Climate Resilient Blue Economy'. The 'G-20 High-Level Principles for a Sustainable and Resilient Blue Economy' will be formalized through negotiations with the G-20 countries.

Land degradation, ecological restoration, and boosting biodiversity are all top priorities for India as the G20 president, Ravichandran said.
