On Wednesday, Basavaraj Bommai, Chief Minister of Karnataka stated that the State Government is planning to increase the scholarship amounts under the Mukhyamantri Raita Vidya Nidhi Yojana, which is a scholarship programme for farmers' children.
The minister said he announced the initiative four hours after taking charge as Chief Minister at an interactive session with the project's beneficiary children at Alva's College in Moodbidri. He is pleased that the scheme has reached the intended audience.
"My enthusiasm to work more has doubled after learning that the students have benefited from the scheme," Bommai stated after engaging with beneficiary students of Alva's Educational Institutions.
He emphasised the importance of youth in the country's future, saying that a large population was previously considered a burden. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the other hand, sees the 130 million Indians, particularly the youth (who make up 46 percent of the population), as a driving force that can drive the country ahead.
The nation's destiny is written by the nation's toiling farmers. Farmers, on the other hand, are in a state of distress. Farmers' children, too, should receive a good education and gain economic independence. According to the Chief Minister, the Vidya Nidhi scheme was developed with this goal in mind.
Members of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel, Govind Karjol, R. Ashok, Kota Srinivas Poojary, V. Sunil Kumar, and others were present.
The government has previously introduced a scheme for children of weavers and fishermen. To boost literacy and reduce unemployment in Karnataka, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai declared last month that the 'Raitha Vidya Nidhi' scholarship scheme for children of weavers and fishermen families will be extended for another year.
The CM stated that hostel facilities will be offered for students from fishermen households in order to prevent any disturbance in higher education for students from weaker sections.
"The Social Welfare department will provide hostel facilities for students from fishermen's families," he stated.
The Government of Karnataka's scholarship scheme, which began on August 7, 2021, intends to grant scholarships to children of farmers in the state so that they can pursue higher education.
