The West Bengal government, in collaboration with the state's higher education department, is launching a graduate student internship programme. Students must be West Bengal citizens, under 40 years old, and have received a 60 percent grade in their last year (degree or diploma programmes).

This comprises students from the state's ITI or polytechnic institutes. Existing students are also eligible to apply, but they must receive a 'no objection certificate' from their respective institutes.

This is an amazing initiative by the state government as the students will get good exposure through these internships. All the interested & eligible students must apply.

Every year, the government will hire 6,000 interns and pay them a salary of Rs 5000 per month. The internship will last a year, and at the end of that time, each student will be evaluated and given certificates. The government will soon develop a website to make the application process easier, and applicants will be chosen by a selection committee.

The West Bengal government has also told several institutes that after the NOC has been obtained, no concerns regarding any negative impact on the intern's continued education will be considered.

Interns will work in a variety of state government offices, including zillas and parishads, and will be assigned to a location near the applicant's home.

Interested applicants can apply for the internships online. The selected candidates will be posted in offices of the government, government-acquired agencies, block offices, sub-division offices and district-level offices.

The Chief Minister said that the interns will be hired by a selection board which will be headed by the Chief Secretary. “This project will be run in coordination with the state education department,” she said.
