ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (ICAR-CIPHET), Ludhiana, is spearheading innovation in food processing by transferring advanced technologies to forward-thinking entrepreneurs. Recently, the institute licensed its technology for groundnut-based products to a firm in Karnataka and provided state-of-the-art makhana processing machinery to a company in Bihar.

With the growing demand for non-dairy foods, ICAR-CIPHET has been actively advocating for healthier alternatives. Groundnut-based products, known for their substantial health benefits, have gained popularity among health-conscious consumers, vegetarians, and vegans. Recognizing this trend, Harshavardhan R.N. of M/s Sarsha Imex (OPC) Private Limited, Karnataka, secured a license for producing groundnut-based flavored beverages, curd, and paneer, paving the way for nutritious and innovative non-dairy options.

In addition to promoting groundnut products, ICAR-CIPHET is also addressing the rising demand for makhana in both domestic and international markets. Traditional makhana processing is labor-intensive, time-consuming, and poses safety risks due to manual handling of hot roasted nuts.

To overcome these challenges, ICAR-CIPHET has developed advanced makhana processing machinery, including a preliminary roaster and a makhana popping machine. This cutting-edge technology was licensed to Barun Kashyap of M/s Videhanutra India Private Limited, Bihar, marking a significant step toward modernizing the makhana processing industry.

During the licensing ceremony, Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director of ICAR-CIPHET, awarded the agreements and certificates to both entrepreneurs, assuring them of comprehensive support in establishing their ventures. The technology transfer initiative was coordinated by Dr. Ranjeet Singh.

These strategic collaborations are expected to enhance productivity, ensure food safety, and boost the economic potential of local enterprises.
