The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts thunderstorms with light to moderate rain in areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the next five days as monsoons progress further into the Indian subcontinent.
The weather report further indicated that the current spell of heavy rain is expected to continue for the next 24 hours over Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim, before reducing.
Rainfall prediction for Southern India
Heavy rain thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected to occur at isolated locations across the Nilgiris, Tirupur, Dindigul, Theni, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Tirupattur, and Vellore districts of Tamil Nadu, according to the IMD Chennai.
For the 20th to 23rd of June, mild to moderate rain is expected in a few locations, along with isolated thunderstorms and lightning over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, according to the IMD.
On Sunday, storms with lightning are anticipated to occur in scattered locations over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Karaikal region.
The sky is expected to remain partly cloudy for the next 24 hours, according to IMD.
In several parts of Tamil Nadu, thunderstorms with mild to moderate rain are expected. Today's minimum temperature is projected to be 27-28 degrees Celsius, with a maximum temperature of 36-37 degrees Celsius expected.
Rainfall predictions for the remaining parts of India
Thunderstorm activity, followed by isolated heavy showers, is expected to continue over the next 2-3 days across North, Central, and East India, according to IMD.
Widespread rainfall with thunderstorms/lightning is expected to continue over the Western Himalayan region (Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand); scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over adjoining plains (Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi); and isolated rainfall over Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan over the next three days, then diminish.
Heavy rain is expected over Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, as well as West Rajasthan, on June 20th; East Rajasthan, on June 20th-21st; Punjab, on June 20th and 21st; and Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, on June 21st.
During the next 5 days, widespread rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is extremely possible throughout Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. Isolated heavy rain is expected in West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on 20th, and 23rd of June; in East Madhya Pradesh on 20th of June; and in Chhattisgarh from the 19th to the 23rd of June.
