IMD Predicts Extremely Heavy Rainfall, Storm & Lightning in These States, Issues Orange Alert

The weather department has asked people to stay alert and advised fishermen not to venture deep into the sea.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), many parts of the country will continue to receive heavy rainfall for the next five days. The northeast, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim, and South Peninsular of India will get severe rainfall along with thunderstorms for the next few days. Moreover, the MeT department has issued an orange alert for all these regions.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated locations is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

While isolated areas in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, as well as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa, Coastal & North Interior Karnataka, and Lakshadweep, will also get continuous showers.

According to the IMD, isolated thunderstorms with lightning are also very likely to occur over the following states: Uttarakhand, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, and Lakshadweep.

Alert issued for Fishermen

Winds of 40 to 45 kph with speeds up to 55 kph are very likely to blow over the shores of Kerala, Karnataka, the Lakshadweep area, the adjoining southeast Arabian Sea, the Comorin area, and the southwest and adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal.

Over the southwest Arabian Sea and the south Comorin region, south of the southwest Bay of Bengal, squally winds of 45–55 kph with gusts of 65 kph are probable.

Therefore, fishermen are advised not to venture deep into these seas.

Weather Forecasts For Upcoming Days

Over the next five days, there are chances of thunderstorms and lightning over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. On September 1 and 2, as well as on September 1, 2022, South Interior Karnataka is also predicted to have isolated very heavy rainfall. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe may also be affected.
