As autumn gives way to winter chill in the air, causing a slight drop in temperatures, the weather service has warned that snowfall is likely in several areas of the Himalayan ranges. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh are among these states.
The meteorological department has forecast a five-day rainstorm in Kashmir, which will end on November 10.
A Low-Pressure area is also expected to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal off the coast of Sri Lanka around November 9th, according to the weather service. It is expected to move northwestward towards the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, with a possible slight intensification over the next 48 hours.
The northern states of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, are still under a 'yellow alert,' which means they should keep a close eye on the situation.
Today, 7 November, and from 9-10 November, moderate rainfall or snowfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh.
On 7 November and 9-10 November, moderate rainfall or snowfall is also expected in Uttarakhand.
Higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall in the early hours of Sunday, while the plains received moderate rains. Snow fell in Drass, a union territory of Ladakh.

Light rain or drizzle is expected in north Punjab and north Haryana on November 9-10, and in north Rajasthan on November 8.

From 11 November, moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, and south Andhra Pradesh.

The weather service also forecasted very heavy rain over Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-Karaikal on November 11.
