International Conference on Cryobiology and Biobanking attended by Vet Varsity Scientists

Dr Ajeet Kumar, Associate Professor, in the Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana presented a paper in 54th Annual meeting of Cryobiology and and biobanking held at Hefei, Anhui Provice, China. He made an oral presentation on “Improvement in cryosurvival of crossbred bull sperm by altering freezing rates within critical temperature range”. To attend this conference, Dr. Kumar had been provided with funds from local organizing committee of the Congress. The Meeting was jointly organized by China Medicinal Biotech Association (CMBA), Biobank Association and several Chinese scientific societies. The theme of the conference was “Cryopreservation and Banking Bio-resources for Advanced Research and Modern Agriculture and Precision Medicine”. The program featured a range of inspiring keynote addresses covering Science of Cryobiology, Cryopreservation and Biobanking, Cryotherapeutic Intervention, Cryosurgery, and Natural System Adaptation. This provided an opportunity to discuss the future direction of the field of cryobiology in terms of technologies, research, and beyond.
The present work on improvement of cryosurvival of crossbred bull sperm is a promising way to optimize cryofreezing protocol. Presently, crossbred bull semen is cryopreserved using programmable biofreezer with great accuracy. Further optimization of this protocol by altering freeziong rate within critical temperature range will improve post thaw semen quality. The presentation at the conference held at China was well appreciated by the scientific community and was a unique opportunity to interact with researchers working in this area. Dr. Prahlad Singh, Professor cum Head of Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics congratulated Dr. Kumar and emphasized that the information obtained are quite encouraging to optimize the freezing protocol and can also be used by other semen freezing stations. Addressing the issues pertaining to semen cryopreservation will impart a good impact on dairy sector and strengthening the rural economy of India.
