IYoM 2023: “We are Currently Working on Kodo Kutki Ragi and Sanwa, the Minor Millet Varieties”: IGAU Vice Chancellor, Dr Girish Chandel

Kickstarting the International Year of the Millets, Krishi Jagran hosted “The unveiling ceremony of ‘Special Edition on Millets’ & Discussion on Millets”. Here’s what the participants had to say about it.

Dr. Girish Chandel, Vice Chancellor of the Indira Gandhi Agriculture University, congratulated Krishi Jagran on the success of the event and said that it is one of the first organizations to celebrate the Year of the Millets. In his speech at the event, he said, “Chhattisgarh is very popular throughout the country for being a forestry-rich area with estimated 46% coverage of forest. Kodo kutki ragi and Sanwa are the minor millet varieties that our university is working on for a long time. This January 20, our university is conducting an event regarding millets.”

Dr. Chandel is a visiting fellow at IRRI Philippines and CNRC, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas, USA. He was previously the CEO of CG Biotechnology Promotion Society, Govt of Chhattisgarh. 

About the event:

‘Special Edition on Millets’ magazine was unveiled and a Discussion on Millets was conducted by Krishi Jagran at their headquarters in Delhi today. The conference saw the participation of some of the most influential delegates in the agriculture sector, from NITI Aayog and AARDO to FMC and NAFED. As one of the first events to kickstart the year of the millets, IYoM 2023 and its participants have successfully furthered the discussion on millets.
