The festival of Karvachauth has special significance for the Suhagan or married women in India. According to Hindi Panchang, Karvachauth falls on the Chaturthi date of the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month every year.
It can also be understood that it is celebrated 10 or 11 days before Diwali. On this day, married women observe Nirjala fast for the long life of their husband. The fast is opened in the evening after worshipping the moon.
Karvachauth this year is on November 4. The auspicious time of worship of Karvachauth is from 05:34 to 06: 52 pm and Fasting of Karvachauth will be done from 06:35 am (before sunrise) in the morning to till the moon time is observed in regions.
The fasting women take water from their partner's hand only after offering water to the moon. On November 4, moonrise is expected at 08.12 pm.
This fast is kept before sunrise and moonrise. The fast is opened only after the lunar darshan. The entire Shiva family, Shiva, Maa Parvati, Nandi, Ganesha and Karthikeya is worshipped before Chandrodaya.
What is Karvachauth
Karvachauth means 'Karva' i.e. pottery and 'Chauth' means the beloved date Chaturthi of the first revered Ganesha. It is considered extremely auspicious to keep the water filled in the karva on this day and worship it and this is why Arghya is offered to the moon at night. After this, the husband breaks the wife's fast by drinking water.
There is also an incident in the Mahabharata according to which Draupadi also observed the holy fast of Karvachauth with the suggestion of Lord Shri Krishna to overcome the crisis faced by the Pandavas. Only after this did the Pandavas win the battle.
According to Ramacharitmanas's Lanka case, one aspect of this fast is that the husband and wife are separated from each other for some reason, the rays of the moon hurt them more, so women worship Chandradev on the day of Karvachauth and wish that for any reason they do not have to bear the separation of their beloved.
