The recall is due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that poses severe health risks, especially to vulnerable groups. The recall impacts well-known brands, including Cumberland Farms, Hershey’s, Jeni’s, Marco, and more than 50 others.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), these products were distributed nationwide. They were available both in retail stores and in direct delivery. It is important to understand that not all items from these brands are affected. A complete list of the specific products can be found on the FDA’s official website.

Listeria Monocytogenes: A Serious Health Risk:

Listeria monocytogenes is a pathogen that can survive under refrigeration and other food preservation conditions. When ingested through contaminated food, it can lead to listeriosis, a potentially fatal infection. This is particularly dangerous for young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

The FDA highlights that bacteria can contaminate food at various stages, from harvesting to storage. Environments contaminated by raw materials, water, soil, or air can lead to the spread of Listeria.

Company Response and Consumer Guidance:

Following the FDA’s detection of Listeria during routine sampling, Totally Cool, Inc. has stopped the production and distribution of the affected products. The company is actively investigating the source of contamination and is taking steps to prevent future occurrences.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to return them to the point of purchase for a full refund or to dispose of them properly.

Preventive Measures and Ongoing Investigation:

Totally Cool, Inc. has reassured the public that no other products produced by the company are impacted by this recall. The company continues to collaborate with the FDA to ensure the safety and quality of its products going forward.

No illnesses have been reported as of yet, but consumers are advised to be cautious and check the full list of recalled items on the FDA’s website.
