Management of Plant Genetic Resources

The importance of the Education in the life is not far off from any one, whosoever in the society is contributing. Knowledge is power, it is the business mantra to perform. After completion of the college education, when one starts serving, it needs to refresh the knowledge from the people who were already performing and the sharing of practical experiences.

The importance of Education in life is not far off from anyone, whosoever in the society is contributing. Knowledge is power, it is the business mantra to perform. After completion of the college education, when one starts serving, it needs to refresh the knowledge from the people who were already performing and the sharing of practical experiences. Such courses in the shape of the training courses in every organization help the people attending such courses. Recently a training course on the Management of Plant Genetic Resources concluded in the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR), New Delhi. There were 21 participants.

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE & DG, ICAR, emphasized the importance of holding need-based training that should be thoroughly evaluated and assessed by independent agencies to quantify the impact of such training. Inaugurating the National Training Course, He opined that both the knowledge and skill base of staff needs to be periodically enhanced to improve organizational efficiency. While appreciating organization of the present generic training of PGR Management.

Dr. Mohapatra further suggested that NBPGR should plan specific training modules on individual PGR subjects to provide in-depth subject matter training too. He also suggested that trainees be ‘bar-coded’ to the system act as future ambassadors and potential partners in PGR activities. He urged that efforts should be made to ensure that every trainee should contribute to the system, and the period of training does not go unutilized in the long-run.

Dr. A.K. Vyas, Guest of Honor,  apprised about the recent developments in the National Training Policy of all personnels in government departments, including, and its importance in the growth of organizations. He informed about the new codified Human Resource Management policy of ICAR, which was being rolled out and to be followed by all. He appreciated the initiative taken by NBPGR to hold the training which would help in developing competencies in the important subject of PGR.

Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Director, ICAR-NBPGR and Course Director in his introductory remarks briefed about the training program.

A special interactive session of the trainees with Padma Bhushan Dr R.S. Paroda, Chairman, TAAS, was held, to discuss issues generic in PGR and agricultural research.

Dr. N.S. Rathore, DDG (Agricultural Education), ICAR, the Chief Guest of valedictory event, stressed upon the importance of training and education in achieving greater goals in research, as it improves knowledge, skill and ability. Based on the report presented and feedback of the trainees, he rated the program very highly. He told that the valedictory function of a training program is a beginning for trainees to carry forward what they learned from the training and explore greater collaboration and cooperation. While appreciating the course content and design, he suggested that the inclusion of leaflets/pamphlets in local languages should also be given due importance

Dr D.K. Yadava, ADG (Seed), ICAR, Guest of Honor delivered the valedictory note and concluded the national training course.
